Corporal Clement Agnew (Service no. 4026) was born in Scotland and travelled to Australia in June, 1911. When he enlisted he was described as a single 24 year old miner from Coldale. He embarked on HMAT A32 Themistocles on 12th May, 1915 with C coy 17th Battalion.

Clement saw service on Gallipoli until he was evacuated with illness. On 25th July, 1916 he transferred to 4th Field Engineers and saw service on the Western Front with them. On 18th December, 1916 he was wounded in action and admitted to hospital for treatment for a gun shot wound to his cheek. He was promoted to Corporal on 6th April, 1917.

On 23rd September, 1917 he was in the fighting at Zillebeke when he was killed in action. He is buried in Birr Crass Cemetery, Plot I, Row F, Grave 18.

The cemetery he is buried in is Birr Cross Roads Cemetery, just outside Ypres.
