Private John Peace (2404) was born in Mount Kembla in 1893. On enlistment he was employed as a miner. He embarked on HMAT Orsova A67 on 14th July, 1915 with the 7th Reinforcements 1st Battalion.

He was on his way to Gallipoli when he became ill and was taken to hospital in Egypt. In May 1916 he was put onto a hospital ship for return to Australia but at 7pm on the 5th June, just 10 days away from Melbourne he died of Pericarditis.
