Details:

David Morgan (Service No 2937) was born in Helensburg, N.S.W. around 1894.

When he enlisted in Sydney he was 22 years old and working as an engineer, and had previous militia service.

David was assigned to the 60th Battalion, 7th Reinforcement, and embarked with his Unit, from Sydney, on HMAT A19 Afric, on 3rd November, 1916.

He served on the Western Front, fighting with C Company in France and Belgium. David was hospitalised a number of times due to illness, then granted leave. After rejoining his Unit, David was wounded in action in France on 27 April, 1918. He was evacuated to 4th Casualty Clearing Station with a penetrating head wound, and died from his wounds the next day, 28th April. David is buried in Pernois British Cemetry, Plot 1, Row B, Grave 10.

David's AIF records contain a letter from his parents requesting the following inscription be included on his headstone: "We have lost, Heaven has gained, One of the best the world contained"

David is commemorated at the Australian War Memorial, Canberra: Panel 170, and on the Helensburgh Methodist Church Roll of Honour.
