Frederick Spencer Powell
Jan Hanna writes : Frederick Spencer Powell (Service No. 4511) was born in 1882 and was my maternal granfather. He enlisted on 25 January 1916 and embarked from Sydney on the HMAT Nestor A71. Frederick was in the 19th Battalion.
Frederick returned after being injured (gassed) in France in 1918. His brothers Edwin and Francis also fought in WW1. Their parents lived in Wollongong. His father was Frederick Henry Powell who was the station master at Wollongong. Frederick Spencer Powell died 1965. F.S. Powell is remembered on the Wollongong War Memorial.
