George Lindsay
Private George Lindsay (service no. 6555) was born in Carluke, Lanarkshire, Scotland circa 1898. The family came to Australia and settled in Mount Kembla, New South Wales. Before coming to Australia young George had served with the 5th Battalion Highland Light Infantry.
He was working as a miner before enlisting in Wollongong. He embarked with 13th Battalion on HMAT A40 Ceramic on 7th October, 1916. On arrival in France he transferred to the 19th Battalion and saw service on the Western Front with them.
On 3rd May, 1917 he was wounded in action with a gunshot wound to his left thigh. George was evacuated to hospital in England for treatment and in November 1917 was returned to Australia. He was discharged medically unfit from the AIF on 10th January, 1918.
A letter on his file states he died in 1948 from a war related illness.

George Lindsay married Marjorie nee Rae and had four children. He enlisted in World War Two on 14th October, 1939 at the age of 41 and served five years as a Sergeant in the 2nd Garrison. He was discharged on 14th September, 1944. He is buried in Mount Kembla cemetery.
