William Farrell (Service No. 7157) was born in Cowdenheath, Scotland circa 1896. William came to Australia when he was 18 years of age.

William enlisted on 8 October, 1917, when he was 21 years old. At that time William worked as a Wheeler, and was living in Thirroul. William's next of kin was listed as his father, who lived at Kennedy Hills, Thirroul.

William left Sydney for the Western Front on 19 December, 1917 on the HMAT A38 Ulysses and was attached to the 18th Infantry Battalion - 18 to 21 Reinforcements.

On 28 June 1918 William was killed in action at Amiens, France, and is buried at Longueau British Cemetery, Picardie, France.

William was awarded a British War Medal and a Victory Medal. His name appears on the Australian War Memorial Roll of Honour.
