Percy Grenfell
Private Percy Grenfell (Service no. 1746) was born in Lithgow.
Prior to enlistment he was working as a miner who had previous service of 4 years in the Citizen Military Forces. He embarked on HMAT A8 Argyllshire with B Company 2nd Battalion on 10th April, 1915. He arrived on Gallipoli on 31st May, 1915.
On the 13th June, 1915 he received a gunshot wound to his left hand. He was evacuated to hospital and on 29th August had a finger amputated. A further operation resulted in 4 fingers being amputated.
In December 1915 he was returned to Australia and on 5th May, 1916 was discharged medically unfit from the AIF.
In November 1917 he married Edith Poland (sister of Matthew Poland) and they lived in Mount Kembla until his death.
