Private John Green (Service no. 4421) was born in Wollongong circa 1890.

Prior to enlisting he was working as a miner. He embarked on HMAT A71 Nestor with 11th Reinforcements, 19th Battalion on 9th April, 1916. He saw service on the Western Front but while engaged in the Menin Road battles near Hooge Crater John was killed in action. He has no known grave and is remembered on Panel 23 of the Menin Gate Memorial in Ypres, Belgium.
